“Being an Acts 1:8 Church”
Decatur First United Methodist Church is committed to be an Acts 1:8 church that bears witness for Christ locally, national and internationally. We seek to have a balance in our mission involvement between those three areas.
We provide financial support for our mission partners through our Faith Promise Mission Commitments. Gifts given to the Faith Promise Mission Budget support missions locally, nationally and internationally.
We also seek to mobilize our congregation to be the hands and feet of Jesus locally, nationally and internationally. Many are presently involved in local missions. We continue to pray about opportunities for Volunteers-in-Mission nationally and internationally.
The Mission Team is currently conducting a survey of various local mission organizations e.g. Committee on Church Cooperation (CCC), Tennessee Valley Outreach (TVO), Neighborhood Christian Center (NCC), Community Free Clinic (CFC), Boys and Girls Club, to determine how we can best serve their needs whether monetary, volunteers or In-kind services.
This year Meals on Wheels will be supported by a special fund offering from the congregation in February. Beginning in year 2014 the Mission Team supports a move to fund all mission work through budgeted amounts contributed to the “Mission Budget”, a part of the Ministry Budget.
On April 6 with the guidance and assistance of the Mission Society of Atlanta, Georgia we began a Global Outreach Weekend Workshop to help our church discover God’s heart for the world and to join God on a mission through a personalized and strategic plan for local, national, and international outreach. This will culminate by conducting a Global Impact Celebration in early 2014 over five days involving a keynote speaker, active missionaries in the field, educational workshops, and mission opportunities.
The Mission Team wants to effectively mobilize our entire congregation into God’s call to go into all the world to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.
