If you have never been to First Church, we invite you to come worship God and experience with us the presence of Christ! Our Sunday morning worship service and various discipleship opportunities are designed to build up the Body of Christ for service in the world. We believe Christ is worthy of our worship and our worship leads us to acts of service and love in Christ’s name, and we are called to gather together for worship, study, and prayer in order to go out and love as Christ loved and serve as Christ served! Traditional and relaxed
We would love to have you in our service regardless of your dress, but just so you aren't surprised, our congregation wears everything from polo shirts to full suits, pants to dresses. We love our Sunday Best here at Decatur FUMC!

Classic Worship
We love the classic, timeless hymns here at Decatur FUMC! We also have contemporary worship from frequent soloists and our amazing choir! Our sermons are always relevant, and we observe many of the traditions of the United Methodist Church!

Children's Church
We are so excited about our new Children's Church! Children grades preschool to 5th should be dropped off at Children's Church before worship begins, where they will experience age-appropriate worship, games, and lessons! Don't worry, though, we will bring your children back to you before worship ends!
First Grace is a faith-based, educational program. We currently serve 110 children and their families here in the heart of Decatur! We provide care and education for children 6 weeks to 4 years old. We have a theme-based learning curriculum that includes faith formation, the incorporation of mathematics and science, and healthy meals!

Our purpose is “Discipling our church to cultivate a legacy of Gospel-inspired servant leadership.” Jesus said “I am among you as one who serves” (Luke 22:27) and “The greatest among you will be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). From our founding in 1834 to today, the prominent fruit of First United Methodist Church has been the servant leaders who have made a significant positive impact on this church, the city of Decatur, and the world.
